GRAND PRIX CHAPTER IN REVIEW

The Grand Prix chapter came into existence back in 1989, at the 1989 POCI Convention held in Dayton, Ohio.  Doug Klein was the first president of this specialty chapter, which means that this chapter is not defined by any geographical region.  We cover any region and or country that a POCI member resides in.  At present we cover all states in the USA except for 6 states and have roughly 8 members from Canada.

The G.P. chapter is dedicated to all Grand Prix cars from 1962 to the present.  We have a newsletter second to none, when it comes to content and readability of information for our members.

We also have a top notch mechanic who can answer anything related to the G.P. cars or for that matter anything that is related to Pontiacs in general!  My name is Steve Fleury from Dayton, Ohio, and at present I am the chapter president.

The chapter membership has fluctuated from a low of 120 members to a high of 475 members.  As with any club you go thru cycles of excitement and we are presently rebuilding our chapter and we are roughly at 300 members.  The G.P. chapter has historically been the largest chapter within POCI..

We have had many good qualified people steering this chapter over the years, sorry to say that a few years back we lost two of our officers due to medical issues.  But we have always had the resources to fill in the voids and keep the G.P. Chapter healthy.

We do not have cars shows, like you would find at many local chapters, but we do cruise our cars to the yearly conventions in groups or simply organize a cruise simply to have fun with other members of our club.  The Route 66 Car Cruise was about as good as it gets, and a great time was had by all.

Every year we have a meeting at the POCI Convention, and as the president this is when you can have the chance to ask me questions as far as the future direction of the chapter.

We are in the rebuilding phase for the chapter website, so please be patient as Jeff Teague our new webmaster puts his knowledge to work for us.  Jeff in 2006 won the best chapter award for a website for another chapter within POCI.

The newsletter editor Tim Dye has just won a Golden Quill Award for his work on the newsletter!  This newsletter has been the driving force to the chapter gaining new members in 2006 and 2007.  We are presently working to get a few examples of the newsletter on this website for you to see, stay tuned.

Remember the big cars are not the quickest cars from Pontiac, but when we do arrive we arrive in style……
